Early on, Carlin was not known for his political commentary. ĭuring the 1960s and 1970s, Carlin was known as a light-hearted comedian focused on observational comedy often entertaining students at universities. Despite his troubles with the Air Force, Carlin's work at KJOE helped him finding other opportunities in the entertainment industry. He began providing jokes to soldiers and local listeners at a radio station called KJOE where he worked during active duty. He was named an unproductive Airman and court-martialed three times. Looking back on his service, Carlin was proud to have been generally discharged instead of dishonourably discharged in 1957. Carlin's most famous piece from 2005 explained the state of the US and why the US government isn't there for the people's interests.Ĭarlin dropped out of high school and was stationed in Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana in 1954.
